Natural Gout Cures
Do you have times when your big toes hurt like crazy. If you do you might be suffering from gout. Gout is a painful inflammation of the joints caused by uric acid defects in the body’s metabolism. If you have this condition, there are medicinal and all natural gout cures. However, in order to treat it, you need to know how it is caused and how it can be prevented.
Basically, gout is caused when uric acid produces deposits of the acid and its salts in the blood and joints. Uric acid is a by-product of purine breakdown in the body and is generally passed through the kidneys and eliminated from the body. Sometimes, however, the body can not eliminate all the urid acid in the body and it can form urate crystals which attach themselves to the joints. Since these salts are heavier than blood they generally collect in the lower extremities which is why the big toes are normally to resting place for this malady.
The primary characteristic of gout is a sudden unexpected burning pain combined with swelling, redness, heat and stiffness in the affected joint. This condition generally appears in people 30-40 years old and is hereditary. For some reason this condition affects men more than women. A person can also experience a low grade fever as a result of this flare-up.
There are two sources of pain associated with gout – the crystals inside the joint rubbing against the bones and the tissues around the joint become tender and sore to the slightest touch. While gout usually attacks the big toes, it can also affect other joints as well such as the ankle, heel, instep, knee, elbow, wrist, fingers, and spine.
In order to treat and eliminate the incidence of gout, one must understand that it is caused by an inability of the body to process uric acid effectively. If a person is unwilling to change their current routine then medication must be prescribed to alleviate this problem. Medications for gout include
· non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)
· colchicine
· corticosteroids
· adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)
· allopurinol
· probenecid
· sulfinpyrazone
Natural gout cures, other the other hand, incorporate changes in lifestyle and diet. In the past, gout was a malady that was experienced by the upper class as these people lived the “high life” in terms of what they ate and what they drank. High protein and high purine rich foods have been associated with the occurrence of gout. Purine rich foods include hearts, herring, mussels, yeast, sweetbreads and smelts. Foods moderately high in purines are anchovies, grouse, mutton, veal, bacon, liver, kidneys, partridge, salmon, turkey, trout, goose, haddock, pheasant and scallops. As one can see from this list, only the wealthy could afford to eat these foods on a regular basis.
Other diet changes to consider include the elimination of alcohol and caffeine. Incorporate this with an increase in the intake of water to flush the system of these crystals and the incidence of flare-ups will be reduced.
